January 3rd, 2009 — engagement, people
My 2009 has already started off great! I was scheduled to shoot engagement portraits at Victoria Park on New Year’s day (thankfully, I had not pulled an all-nighter!)
The weather was brisk, and because the sky was overcast it gave us perfect light to work with.
I must admit I’ve only shot portraits once before in the winter! I’m really happy with the way these photos turned out. Unfortunately, my couple were not that happy with their expressions. It must have been the brittle air surrounding them! I was even finding it hard to smile
I have included only a link to the images. If you wish to view them, I need to add you as a Flickr contact first. Thank you for understanding!
Their wedding is coming up fast! Once I have processed those images, I will be sure to include a public post about that day.
Hope everyone had a great New Year’s celebration! I hope you are all sticking with your newly-made resolutions (if any)!

I just love this photo. My cousin’s daughter is now 18 months old, and she’s so adorable. And there is just something about the soft, smooth skin that babies and toddlers have! It’s majestic.
She was visiting me last week when I took this photo. She had been concentrating on fitting her tiny shoe onto my foot.
Silly girl.

I had a last minute shoot last night with a family I’d met almost a year ago. The mum had expressed interest to me about six months ago, and when I didn’t hear back I had assumed they had just become too busy, especially with their new baby. I sent a few messages but of course, I didn’t want to keep bugging. But then on Thursday I received an email asking if I was available the next evening!
Of course, I can (almost!) always squeeze in a shoot.
I was able to get in and get all the shots the family wanted. Their new baby was my first client…. and what a patient little boy he was. At only two months old!
Here is one photo I’m sharing for now… there are definitely more to come!

November 25th, 2008 — event, people
I had the pleasure of attending a friend’s CD release party over the weekend. I wasn’t planning on taking any photos, but once I’d seen a few others pull out their cameras I figured I might as well, just from where I was sitting. Nothing fancy or elaborate, but they turned out ok!
All photos were taken at ISO 800 or 1600.

The air was chilled, the clouds opened up and rained down on us, gently.
I captured a few images, all available on my Flickr site. (Click the image below).

*Thank you for visiting my blog! It was unavailable late last night due to a server crash (beyond my control). Thankfully everything was restored overnight!

Today is Remembrance Day in Canada. It’s the day we set aside to reflect on the sacrifice our men & women made for freedom for our country. There are ceremonies in most major cities at the hour of 11 o’clock around the cenotaph.
It is also the day a group of my friends remember our late friend Chantel. It was the unfortunate event five years ago today, November 11th in 2003, that she took her own life. She was only 20 years old.
Instead of reflecting on what she did on her last day, we all stand around her resting place to celebrate her life, and remember all the good things that made her Chantel.
In 2003, I created a simple webpage for any and everyone to visit and remember at any time. I recently updated it. You can view it here if you wish.
My thoughts are with everyone who has ever had a suicide affect their life. Feel free to share your thoughts or stories in a comment.
It’s good to remember. Lest we forget.

Just before the Thanksgiving weekend, another friend of mine contacted me about getting portraits of him rowing down at the KW Rowing Club. Happily I agreed! I’m always interested in different environments and opportunities, however simple or extravagant
We had previously tried to get together for a quick shoot, however, the rain came down just as I was setting up. It came out of nowhere!
So, a few days later we managed to meet up again at the club and take advantage of the gorgeous weather, clear skies, and blazing sunshine. At first I thought the photos would be write-offs because of the glaring sun (and I’d forgotten my polarizer, grr!)
However - there were gems among the batch I snapped. Woo! The only unfortunate thing that did happen, was he fell out (off?) of the boat, and for the first time in the few years he’s been rowing. Oh how embarrassing! But he was in good spirits, so I keep clicking away

Over the weekend of October 10-13th this year was the Canadian Thanksgiving. I think I prefer Thanksgiving in October, instead of in November like the Americans. It’s a nice break just when fall is starting. Last year and this year, we were just graced with gorgeous weather. Friends of mine (Sk8ter girl!) even went to the beach last year!
Unfortunately for me, I had volunteered to cook a turkey for my family, so I was stuck at home all day Sunday. No worries though, my house smelled absolutely delicious, and the fresh breeze blowing through, it was so warm and yummy.
The turkey turned out well, and we had a great time eating and spending time together.
The next morning was the annual Thanksgiving Day parade, for which my husband & I were up at 7am to get good spots on King Street.

I was hesitant to even bring my camera this year; after all, it’s “just another parade” with the same old floats. Well, no sirree! I had a creative edge that morning, and the results were fantastic! Lesson learned: Don’t be complacent!
The weather was absolutely cooperative and the sunlight was working in my favour. It was the best parade shoot I’ve ever done, I’m really proud! Feel free to share your thoughts here, or on Flickr!
I love comments and feedback!

A good friend of mine came back down to Kitchener for the Thanksgiving weekend, and we were able to get together and shoot some fun pictures! Thankfully our city has a designated skate park which is pretty awesome… and when we showed up on Friday afternoon, most kids who use the park were still in school so we had the place almost to ourselves. There were three guys on bmx bikes circling us, so I had to time most of the photos just right
They were curious about what we were shooting photos for, but they seemed to be entertained (especially with such an attractive model!) hee hee.
We had an amazing beautiful day to be outside, too!! Also I had just picked up a new filter - a Neutral Density #3. It cuts the amount of light entering the lens, so this was perfect to use for direct sun-lit shots.
Below is one of the first images I took with the filter. I did a bit of post-processing in Photoshop. I’ve gotta say the filter worked wonders; there’s no doubt in my mind that this photo (and many others) would have easily been blown out. I love it.
Thoughts? There are more photos from our afternoon together on my Flickr page.

October 2nd, 2008 — day trip, people
To celebrate our first wedding anniversary, my husband and I took to the car and headed north into cottage country. We stayed at a hotel (which I might mention, was very nice, but had no cellular or wireless service whatsoever!) and spent the days touring the surrounding areas.
On the way up we ran into a few roads “under construction”. It was more prevalent because we were travelling during the week, rather than the weekends like we usually do.
I took this photo just because we were right there in the middle of it. As one of my Flickr friends pointed out, it really paints a picture of Ontario.
You can view more photos of our trip on Flickr (click on this photo to get there).
