Winter Sunset

IMG_0294_1600w

On my drive home from work last night, I just couldn’t pass up capturing at least a few images of the glorious sunset. The sky was lit up in every colour - blues, reds, oranges, yellows… it was like a giant wave of fire. I’m still amazed at what my camera captured… talk about being in the right place and the most excellent time.

Snow!

Kitchener-Waterloo received a dumping of nearly 20cms of snow over the weekend!!

It is a winter wonderland out there - unfortunately the sun goes down way too fast and I wasn’t able to capture more images today. Hopefully tomorrow!

I think this snow is here to stay now, unlike the snowfall back on October 29th - that had melted by lunchtime :-)

Skywatch Friday on Monday

I recently joined the Skywatch Friday blog list. I LOVE weather and how quickly it can change… and clouds are my favourite! This is my very out-of-date-order first entry.

On August 18, 2008 I was out at one my husband’s baseball games when a storm started rolling in near the end of the game. I camped out in my car to capture a few images (since it was pouring rain). When the rain lightened up a bit, I jumped back out of the car to get better sky photos.

I lightened this photo in Photoshop to show just how massive the clouds were! They were absolutely amazing, and they were moving so very fast across the sky.

Solid Ice

On March 1, 2007 Ontario was hit with a pretty bad ice storm. The next day when I arrived at work, I pulled into a parking spot and this car had been there all night!
I often wonder how long it took the owner to chip their way into the vehicle…

This photo has been viewed 585 on Flickr since I uploaded it, so I thought I would share it with my blog readers :-)
It’s photos like these that make me actually want winter to return! (What the heck is wrong with me!)

Solid Ice

There are a few more images from that storm you can view by clicking on the image above :-)

the “Bee’s Knees”

I went to the St Jacob’s Farmer’s Market yesterday at noon hour (bad idea, it was jam-packed!) I popped in just to get a bunch of sunflowers.
This was one of the shots I took of the bunch. We’ve had fabulous weather these last few days, with clear skies and just a coolness in the air… no more humidity.
I took advantage of the clear blue skies for this shot, as you can see! I wasn’t planning on having the bee in the shot, but I think he (she?) really adds to the photo. :-)

You can find this print in my Etsy shop.

Filters

Filters are great! I have the cicular polarizing filter, and this afternoon I stopped in at Henry’s to pick up the 81A filter. I’m going camping this weekend and I’m looking forward to capturing some exceptional sunrises & sunsets. We’re staying right by a lake - hopefully the weather cooperates as well.
Stay tuned!

Storm Chasing

Last night there was a fairly large storm that rolled through Waterloo Region. I was able to spend two hours in the outskirts of KW “chasing” this storm. Click on the “Storm” icon to view the photos I took, including a short cellphone video of the cloud cover.

Amazing stuff!
